I am delighted to announce the opening of the first stage of a new active transport link between Sutherland and Cronulla.
The Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link will be a pedestrian and bicycle path between Sutherland and Cronulla to help make walking and bike riding a convenient, safe and enjoyable transport option.
I am pleased to mark the end of construction on the first stage of the new 1.7 kilometre path, between Sutherland and Kirrawee.
The new path will provide a range of benefits for locals by connecting key destinations like transport interchanges, schools, business precincts and recreational areas. It will also provide an alternative to car travel for short trips.
The new path will have positive health and lifestyle impacts. I encourage the community to take advantage of this new pathway, especially during this time where it is important for people to take care of their physical and mental health.
This new pathway will give people the chance to walk, ride their bikes, scooters or skateboards while adhering to social distancing guidelines when exercising.
Planning continues on the remainder of the project between Kirrawee and Cronulla. Site investigations were completed late last year and will be used to develop concept design of the future stages. Locals will have the chance to have their say on the plans.
