I am pleased to announce Eliza Clark as the 2021 Heathcote Local Woman of the Year.
Being a new mum can be extremely isolating and coupled with a global pandemic it can be an extremely tough environment. Mrs Clark realised there was a need for greater support for local mums especially during the COVID-19 lockdown. This drove her to start “Engadine/Heathcote & Surrounds New Mum Village” to create a space for mums and their bumps, newborns or babies up to 12 months old to interact and gain support. The group now has 300 members and is growing daily.
Mrs Clark has organised park play dates, monthly lunches at local cafes, a CPR course, a Breast Cancer Fundraiser and other outings which created a connected community for local mums. She also organises catch ups with the Local Nanna’s group for those with no grandchildren nearby. It provides new mums with another support network and gives local nans an opportunity for baby cuddles and to share wisdom.
Although Mrs Clark has a family of her own, she continues to selflessly give her time and constant support to members of the “New Mum Village” day and night. She has been known to drop coffee to a member after a rough night with their baby, check up on those who seem to be struggling and drop off groceries to those who need help. Mrs Clark provides crucial assistance to local mums without them having to ask.
I commend Eliza Clark on this achievement and acknowledge her hard work and also wish to recognise the significant impact she has had on our local community. The support Eliza has been able to provide for Mums and bubs is outstanding. Her kindness and generosity ripples through the community like a pebble thrown into a pond. She is an extremely deserving recipient.
The Local Woman of the Year Awards are a way the NSW Government celebrates the achievements of women as part of International Women’s Day on March 8 2021. Mrs Clark was presented with her award today at the International Convention Centre Sydney.
“I am honoured and humbled to have been nominated and to receive the Local Woman of the Year for the Heathcote Electorate. I kindly thank Lee Evans for his support and also want to thank all of the local mums that make up the wonderful ‘New Mum Village – could not have done this without you and your babies,” Mrs Clark said.
