I congratulate Heathcote’s Local Woman of the Year Bernie Spedding, joining her with more than 400 guests to celebrate and recognise winners at the NSW Women of the Year Awards held at the International Convention Centre Sydney today. I was delighted to deliver the news to a very surprised Bernie when I rang to inform her that she had been selected as the 2017 Local Woman of the Year for the Heathcote Electorate. Bernie has made an enormous contribution to our community through her work with Engadine Gymnastics and Gymnastic NSW so it was great to formally recognise that at the Women of the Year Awards which were held on International Women’s Day. I was thrilled that Bernie was presented with her award by Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Women, Tanya Davies.
This year a record number of nominations were received, with 257 women nominated for award categories and 83 chosen as Local Women of the Year.
Winners in the other individual categories are:
- Community Hero Award – Debbie Higgison
- Harvey Norman Young Woman of the Year Award – Dr Nicole Seebacher
- REX Airlines Regional Woman of the Year Award – Julia Harpham
- NSW Business Woman of the Year Award – Gina Field
- NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year Award – Kristal Kinsela
