Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian joined me today to announce a major boost for local commuters, with around 80 new parking spaces to be delivered at Engadine Station if the Baird Government is re-elected.
Ms Berejiklian said, “Parking is a big issue for transport customers and with more people wanting to catch the train than ever before, the local member Lee Evans has been fighting for extra parking at Engadine.”
“Since coming to government we’ve made parking a big priority, delivering thousands of new spaces right across the network, including across the Sutherland Shire. I am pleased this latest investment in parking will benefit commuters in Engadine,” Ms Berejiklian said.
I welcome the announcement and if re-elected the government will work closely with councils and the community to deliver the new parking spaces as soon as possible. It is proposed the new car park will be built along the Princes Highway, a short walk from Engadine Station.
From day-one this government hit the ground running on public transport reforms and customers are now seeing the results. Public transport customers are now benefiting from more parking, station upgrades, cheaper and convenient travel with the Opal card, more than 10,500 extra weekly services, air-conditioned trains and real-time apps.
I know there’s still a lot of hard work to go but today’s announcement reinforces that the Baird Government is listening to what’s important and delivering the transport infrastructure the community desperately needs.
